Opening your printer access door only to find fine black dust coating the interior rollers is alarming. Here is what causes it and how to clean it safely.
Common Causes of Internal Leakage
- Overfilled Waste Hopper: If a cartridge is refilled without completely vacuuming out residual waste powder, it overflows directly onto the internal rollers.
- Worn Recovery Blade: The thin mylar seal inside the cartridge degrades, letting powder seep out during rotation.
Safety Warning: Never Use a Household Vacuum!
Toner particles are microscopic (5-8 microns). Domestic vacuums will blow fine toner back into the room air, and electrostatic discharge from the friction can damage the vacuum motor. Always clean with a damp microfiber cloth using cold water only.
