Over 60% of daily printer service calls stem from paper jams. Most can be prevented with simple maintenance.
1. Worn Rubber Pickup Rollers
If the printer makes a grinding noise but fails to pull sheets from tray 1, the D-shaped rubber pickup roller has lost its ribbed traction tread and needs replacement or cleaning.
2. Humid Paper
During monsoon months, reams of paper absorb ambient moisture. Damp sheets stick together electrostatically, leading to multiple-sheet pickups.
3. Worn Separation Pads
When the friction pad beneath the paper stack wears smooth, it fails to separate individual sheets, pulling two or three pages at once.
