Storing backup toner cartridges protects against sudden office downtime, but improper storage can ruin them before use.
1. Store Horizontally (Flat)
Never stand laser cartridges on end. Standing them vertically causes the powder to shift and pack tightly against internal gears.
2. Shield from Direct Light
The green/blue OPC drum is sensitive to ambient light. Exposure to sunlight or fluorescent fixtures for even 10 minutes can cause permanent background fading.
3. Keep Away from High Heat
Toner is a blend of plastic polymers and pigments. In temperatures over 38°C, the particles soften and fuse into hard lumps.
