You hit print on an urgent invoice or contract, and the output is so faint it's barely legible. Before assuming your cartridge is empty, consider these primary culprits.
1. The "Eco-Mode" or "Draft" Trap
Check your printer driver settings on Windows or macOS. If EconoMode or Toner Save Mode is toggled on, the printer deliberately limits toner deposit by up to 50%.
2. Uneven Toner Distribution
When powder levels drop below 15%, toner settles toward one side. Remove the cartridge, hold it level, and rock it gently from side to side 5-6 times.
3. Worn Magnetic Roller Sleeves
If shaking does not resolve the issue and toner is plentiful, the magnetic roller coating has likely worn thin, preventing proper electrical charge transfer.
